Largs RNLI have had their funds impacted this year by Covid19 but are still continuing to host vital fundraisers.

Its souvenir shop hasn’t been able to open and well known events such as May Day, their ever popular Open Day including welly walks along the prom, street collections and many more, have not been able to go ahead because of the pandemic.

Fundraisers are so important specially given the local lifeboat have reported a high frequency of call outs during recent months.

Promoter Cathy Holgate said: "The period from September to Christmas is usually a very busy and lucrative one but we will be unable to hold our annual lunch at the Willowbank or our pre-Christmas Coffee Morning, or attend the many other events where we are invited to have a stall. So all that funding will be lost.”

"Morrisons held a remote bucket collection when £313 was raised , and the committee thanks them for their contribution and continued support."

The committee had a stall at the beginning of the Largs Saturday Market which raised £416, and there will be another one on Saturday October 24. This will sell Christmas cards, calendars, diaries and souvenirs. Many opportunities to buy Christmas gifts etc will not be here this year but Chandlers at Largs Yacht Haven sell RNLI Christmas goods.

Cathy concluded: “ We must try and make as much as we can. These are difficult and distressing times but the lifeboats are still rescuing, the crews still need to be kitted out and train, and the stations still need to be maintained. So please come along to the market and support us. Take care everyone”.
