KIND-HEARTED football fans have netted a bumper cash boost for charity by taking to the virtual golf course. 

Celtic supporters coined in cash for the East End team’s Foundation in an online tournament, arranged when the club’s annual Golf Day was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Instead of Renfrew Golf Club, fans took to the digital fairway between for the Virtual Golf Open with players chipping in from as far afield as Spain, Sweden, and even Australia.

And thanks to supporters, more than £4,000 was raised with all proceeds going towards the Celtic FC Foundation’s Football for Good Fund, which is providing food and essentials to those most in need within Glasgow communities.

Celtic FC Foundation chief executive, Tony Hamilton, told CelticFC.net: “We really missed our annual Golf Day at Renfrew, which is always a huge highlight in our fundraising calendar, but this Virtual Golf Open has been a wonderful success.

“It has been tremendous to see so many of our Golf Day regulars getting involved, as well as many new teams offering their support.
