A LIGHTING display will be held at George Square every night this month - to help spread some Christmas cheer across the city.

For anyone able to visit while remaining within current guidance, Glasgow City Council have made the square a magical place to be with the traditional decorations including the Christmas tree, lights and crib, and the new festive lighting installation.

From 3.30pm every day until January 2 2021, Glasgow City Chambers will be illuminated with a beautiful colour wash, Christmas lights and lasers beamed from the roof.

Glasgow Times reporter Jamie Shuttleworth headed along to give our readers a chance to see how it looked.

But as the lead up to the festive season is different because of Covid-19, Glasgow Loves Christmas is instead asking Glaswegians to stay within current guidelines and give support to businesses in the city.

Councillor David McDonald, chair of Glasgow Life and depute leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “George Square and Glasgow City Chambers are the traditional heart of our Christmas celebrations and while we can’t all get together to celebrate as usual, it is wonderful to see them look so spectacular for the festive period.

"Please remember to help keep everyone safe and follow the local Covid-19 protection level advice.

"And please shop with Glasgow businesses that offer presents and food online this Christmas.”
