Robert Cowie, from Boddam, has been named as the cyclist who died on the A90 on Wednesday 2 December.
The incident happened about 2.30pm near Boddam and involved two other vehicles - a grey Seat Ateca car and a white Volkswagen Crafter van.
Neither of the drivers involved were injured, but Mr Cowie tragically died at the scene.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are providing support to Mr Cowie's family.
Sergeant Craig McNeill of the Road Policing Department said, "Our thoughts are with everyone affected and particularly with Robert's family and friends.
"I would urge anyone who may have information about the collision and has not already spoken to officers to contact police as soon as possible.
"We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw Robert cycling southwards on the A90 around the time of the collision.
"Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident number 1710 of 2 December."
