FORMER Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes that Celtic's head of recruitment Nick Hammond deserves his fair share of blame for the crisis currently engulfing Parkhead - arguing that the transfer chief's record in the market has seriously damaged the club's title ambitions.

The ex-Scotland internationalist appeared on Sky Sports' Scottish Football podcast to brand summer signing Albian Ajeti a 'flop' and question the calibre of players brought to the club under Hammond's watch, adding that the team's star players are 'miles off it'.

Boyd said: "In the midst of all the madness on Sunday night, when you look at Celtic's model, the way they've went about it in recent years, Nick Hammond could've walked through the car park and nobody would have batted an eyelid.

"He could've walked right through them because he's in the background. But has got a big responsibility for getting in players that are up to the standard to play for Celtic.

"I'm afraid to say he has let the club down as well. There's no getting away from it.

"When you look at the signings that have been brought in... we've went over and over the goalkeeping situation - it's baffling why they've let Craig Gordon go. David Marshall was out there as well. They could, quite easily, have got him in.

"It's as if Celtic are trying to hit the jackpot but with these signings because it's happened before.

"Neil Lennon's getting the brunt of it but there's people within the building, questions need to be asked because the signings have not been good enough.

"People can talk about strikers being off form but Ajeti, for £5m, has been a major flop at this moment in time. I know as a striker you want people to create chances [for you] but at £5m you're looking for more from Ajeti.

"I don't know what people think of [Diego] Laxalt, as well, but I just don't see it. [Jeremie] Frimpong, all I heard was 'excellent going forward' but he can't even get a game now because of [Hatem Abd] Elhamed, and I don't think his performances have been great.

"And you then look at the ones who are bandied around at £30m, £20m, £15m, this and that... Kristoffer Ajer, for me, is miles off it. Christopher Jullien is miles off it. And then, don't even get me started on Odsonne Edouard.

"You've got somebody paying your wages, you're being linked with big moves, so to be walking around the field at the level he is, it's not good enough."
