PEOPLE in East Renfrewshire aged 60-64 are being urged to get their free flu jab over the next two weeks from two drop in centres.

For the first time people in that age group can get the vaccination which is normally only available to the over 65's.

The East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership HSCP which are running the December scheme are urging the 60-64 age group to attend two special weekend drop-in clinics to get their jab.

The clinics are at the Eastwood Health and Care Centre in Drumby Crescent, Clarkston and Barrhead Health and Care Centre in the town's Main Street.

They are being held on Saturday the 5th and 12th of December and Sunday the 6th and 13th between 9am and 3pm

Those attending either flu clinic must wear a face covering and use hand sanitiser when entering and leaving the building.

Social distancing must also be observed.

Anyone sent an appointment letter by the NHS must bring it with them.

People in East Renfrewshire whose GP is in another council area can call in between 1pm and 3pm for their jab.

Those in the 60-64 age group who have received a flu inoculation since September don't need to attend.

There are no travel restrictions within East Renfrewshire on people attending the flu vaccination centres.

Dr Deirdre McCormick, Chief Nurse at East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “If you’re invited to receive the flu vaccine, I’d strongly encourage you to do so.

”It’s the best protection we have against flu, is free, safe and isn’t a live virus so it can’t give you flu.

“We’ve made the clinics by GP practice and at the weekend so they are as convenient as possible.

"It also means the health centres are otherwise closed which will help us keep everyone safe.”

Councillor Caroline Bamforth, Chair of the East Renfrewshire Integration Joint Board added: “This year more than ever it is important that those invited for vaccination take up the offer to protect themselves, their family and their community.”
