A care home in Lanarkshire was closed to new admissions after a patient discharged from hospital tested positive for Covid-19.

Rannoch Lodge Nursing Home in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire sent letters to families to informing them that Public Health Scotland had imposed temporary restrictions lasting 14 days which also included a ban on garden visits.

A letter seen by The Herald states that the action was taken after a Covid case was identified "following admission from hospital."

The letter states that the resident was immediately isolated and adds: "We believe the risk of transmission to be minimised due to the enhanced infection control procedures and vigilance of all staff within the home."

It is understood that the restrictions were lifted today.

Health boards, the Care Inspectorate and homes themselves have the authority to impose admissions restrictions on care homes if cases are identified.
