LOOKING at the past week’s parliamentary activities in the House of Commons, and I must say I am concerned regarding the future of our country if this is a flavour of things to come.
Johnson and his fascist cohorts have no regard for the wellbeing of people or true democratic principles and human rights.
An amendment to protect the NHS from future trade talks in the UK Trade Bill was voted down with 355 MPs against and 266 MPs for it – a shocker! Then another amendment to veto trade with countries that have known genocide activities – voted down again?
One more amendment to maintain trade and environmental standards similarly rejected, while MPs also voted to deprive themselves of the right to scrutinise and approve future trade deals – absolutely outrageous!
Add to this covert Brexit agenda the fact that this British Government is now looking at overhauling the employment laws covering workers’ rights in a post-Brexit Britain and I must say the alarm bells are ringing. I’m sure I’m not the only citizen in Scotland to be very concerned at what appears to be an autocratic government that is intent on imposing its will on the people by stealth and erosion of fundamental and accepted human rights. This cannot be allowed to happen and there are ways to counter such an outrageous form of governance that has never been seen in the history of British or Scottish politics.
A push for independence is definitely one of the political routes to get away from these chancers once and for all, but the Scottish Government must have the majority of our population backing this stance.
Any doubters really must reassess where they want to go in the quest for self-determination and I would suggest that this group of people in the middle ground of Scottish voters please watch the crass activities and listen to the disrespectful comments that these Tories utter on a regular basis. Then arrive at your own natural conclusion.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
