Police are still on the hunt for two masked men armed with weapons after they robbed a mother and child leaving them 'terrified' last week in Stevenston.

The incident happened last Wednesday (February 24) when at around 2.45am two men wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons forced their way into a property in Morrison Court.

They threatened the 37-year-old woman before leaving with a small quantity of cash.

However, a week on and police have yet to make an arrest in connection with the incident.

Officers in the area are continuing to appeal to the public for information on the two suspects.

The first suspect is described as 6ft2, of slim build and wearing a dark long-sleeved top and jeans. He possibly had an English or Irish accent.

The second suspect is described as 5ft10, of heavy build, and wearing a dark coloured top and jeans. He spoke with a local accent.

They are believed to have made off from the street in a white transit van.

Speaking last week Detective Constable Will Thomson from Saltcoats CID said: “The woman was home alone with her child at the time and both were left terrified by what happened.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who was in or near to Morrison Court in the early hours of this morning, and saw anything at all suspicious, to get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists with dash-cams who were in the area to please check back their footage in case they have captured anything which could be significant, in particular any white transit vans.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Saltcoats CID quoting incident number 0226 of Wednesday, 24 February, 2021. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
