MOTD Live: Uefa Euro 2020 (BBC1, 1.15pm)
WALES begin their Group A campaign against Switzerland at the Olympic Stadium in Baku (kick-off 2pm).
The Welsh went all the way to the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Portugal at Euro 2016, and caretaker manager Robert Page can call on the heroes from that tournament, including Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, this time around.
Switzerland, captained by Granit Xhaka, will be no pushover though, and have won five of the sides’ previous seven counters. Later today, Finland take on Denmark at the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen (kick-off 5pm), and Belgium travel to Saint Petersburg Stadium to take on Russia (kick-off 8pm).
Phil Collins at the BBC (BBC2, 9pm)
IF you’ve enjoyed spending your Saturday evenings watching Cher and Tina Turner in action in recent weeks, here’s another music star who enjoyed success during the 1980s to tickle your fancy. From his early days as the drummer and singer of Genesis, to solo hits such as In The Air Tonight, Another Day In Paradise and Against All Odds, Phil Collins has a phenomenal back catalogue to draw upon.
You’ll soon be up on your feet with this collection of his best performances brought together from the BBC archive. It is followed at 10pm by the 1988 romantic comedy film Buster, in which Collins plays Ronald Christopher “Buster” Edwards, one of the notorious thieves involved in The Great Train Robbery of 1963.
Grace Kelly: Lost Tapes of a Princess (C4, 9pm)
GRACE Kelly’s life and career are hardly a secret – her rise to become 1950s Hollywood royalty and then a real-life princess when she retired at 26 to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco is well documented.
However, Kelly’s death in a car accident at the age of 53 means her history will always be tinged with tragedy. This documentary tries to give a broader understanding of the star’s life by sharing the stories of her loved ones, including her only son, Prince Albert.
The Grimaldi family, which still rules Monaco today, has allowed filmmakers to use home movies of events that show Kelly as a loving mother surrounded by her three children, in contrast to her official image at the time.
Casualty (BBC1, 9.25pm)
THE long-running hospital drama is back on our screens just once this week, after fans were treated to double bills over the past two weekends.
The fallout from Bibi’s vaginal mesh nightmare and overdose is far from over and Lev appears to be teetering on the brink of a spiral of self-sabotage. An extremely disturbing accusation throws David and Rosa’s family into disarray – but can the pair stop squabbling long enough to sort it all out?
And finally, Fenisha discovers the truth about Ethan’s feelings and that he wants to be more than just a co-parent with her.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
