A four-year-old girl is being treated in hospital for a serious leg injury after being struck in a hit-and-run incident in Glasgow. 

Police are urgently seeking to trace the drive whose car struck the child in Dumbarton Road on Monday. 

Officers were called to the incident in the Scotstoun area at 1pm yesterday after receiving reports that the girl had been struck by a vehicle near to the raod's Scotfresh store. 

Emergency services were called and the infant was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where she is currently receiving treatment for a serious leg injury.

The car did not stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sergeant Roy McCarney of the Road Policing Unit said: “A young child has been left with a serious leg injury as a result of this incident and it is absolutely vital that we trace the person driving the car involved.

 "The surrounding area would have been busy with pedestrian and vehicle traffic at the time and I am appealing for any witnesses, in particular any motorists who may have dashcam footage of the incident, to come forward to assist the investigation.
