More than 4,000 new Covid infections have been recorded by the Scottish Government in the past 24 hours.

New statistics show that 4,024 fresh cases have been identified, a rise on yesterday's total of 3,598. During that time, 37 deaths have been registered. This is the highest daily total for seven months

The number of people in hopital being treated for the virus in hospital is now 1,057, a slight fall from yesterday's total of 1,076. More than 1,000 people have been treated in hospital since 12 September.

Of those being treated in hospital, 86 are in intensive care, and increase of two from Wednesday. 

The overall death toll from the virus in Scotland is now 8,464 by the Scottish Government's measure, which counts those who registered a positive test in the past 28 days.

Separate figures produced by National Records of Scotland, which report deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, put the number at 10,826 as of 19 September.

Of the 53,811 new tests for Covid-19 which reported results yesterday, 8.0% per cent were positive. 

The vaccination scheme continues to roll out, with 4,166,056 people having received the first dose of a vaccine, while 3,818,428 have received their second dose.
