Three people are in hospital following a two-car crash on a busy Scots road.

Emergency services were called to the A77 just south of the Bellfield Interchange in Kilmarnock at around 8am this morning to reports of a crash between a Vauxhall Insignia and a Mini.

An air ambulance took the driver of the Mini to Queen Elizabeth university Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The female passenger of the Mini and the male driver of the second car have been taken to the nearby Crosshouse Hospital.

At this stage, none of th einjuries are believes to be life-threatening.

Road users have been told to avoid the A77 at the Bellfield Interchange and follow the local diversion after the accident.

The southbound road has been closed for more than three hours, with drivers being diverted to the A71 to Warrix Interchange, then to the A78 Southbound to Monktonhead Roundabout, then to Dutchhouse Roundabout and back on to the A77.

 

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told The Herald: "The road is currently closed south bound.

"Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1062 of 25 September."
