A pedestrian has been killed in a hit and run incident on the A85 at Kirkton near Taynuilt.

Police received a report a man had been found injured on the roadside around 1am on Sunday. 

Emergency services attended but tragically the a 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say his family has been notified.

Initial enquiries have indicated the man may have been struck by a vehicle travelling on the A85.

It's believed this may have occurred between half past midnight and 1am and that the vehicle involved may have sustained damage in the incident.

However, it’s not known if the vehicle was travelling towards Oban or travelling towards Crianlarich and further afield.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and will check for any public and private CCTV footage which could assist in the inquiry.

The A85 in this area remains closed to traffic and adiversion is in place as police continue to conduct enquiries at the location.

Traffic Scotland say the alternative route via A819 - A83 - A816 will add around 85miles to your journey so please allow plenty of extra travel time.

 

Detective Inspector Scott Hamilton said: “It’s imperative we find out how this man has died. His family is devastated by what has happened.

"We are working to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who was on the A85 last night to contact us.

"Any small piece of information could assist the investigation.”
