A man has been arrested after a fatal hit-and-run in Argyll and Bute.

A 61-year-old was found injured at the side of the road at Kirkton near Taynuilt early on Sunday morning.

Emergency services attended at around 1am, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been named as local man Jimmy Harris.

Police have confirmed a 24-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident, and has been released pending further enquiries.

Traffic Scotland has advised signed diversions are in place via the A819, A83 and A816-  and say the diversions will add around 85 miles to journies.

 The victim's family has been left "devastated" after the fatal crash, and police say they are doing all they can to find out the circumstances.

Detective Inspector Scott Hamilton said: “Our thoughts are with Jimmy’s family and friends at this time, as they come to terms with their tragic loss.

“Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we continue to appeal for anyone with any information to please come forward.”
