A section of Scotland's busiest motorway has been closed this morning after a 'serious' crash.

Emergency services are in attendance at junction 4 of the M8 after receiving reports of a crash between two vehicles at around 9.50am.

Traffic Scotland advised that the road has been completely closed, with westbound traffic being taken off at J14 and rejoining at junction 5.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 9.50am on Sunday, October 17, police were called to the M8 at junction 4, near Bathgate, following the report of a serious two-vehicle road crash.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
