Two children are fighting for their lives in hospital after a serious two car crash on Scotland's busiest motorway.

Emergency services were at the scene at 9.50am on Sunday after a brown Ford Focus and a black Volkswagen Golf collided.

A man, woman and two children were in the Ford Focus, with the adults taken to the Royal infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

The children, aged six and 14, are in critical condition in the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

The female driver of the Volkswagen Golf was taken to University Hospital Wishaw with serious injuries.
