POLICE are appealing for witnesses of a serious assault which took place outside an Edinburgh supermarket last night.

A 32-year-old man was seriously assaulted outside a Tesco Express in the Gracemount Drive area of Edinburgh on Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8pm, and the victim was later taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, after escpaing his attacker and making his way into the shop for assistance.

Police have revealed that the suspect was seen breaking the window victims vehicle in the carpark before running from the area and entering a dark hatchback car on Captain’s Drive.

Detective Inspector Bob Campbell said: “This appears to have been a targeted attack and we do not believe there was any risk to the wider public.

“It took place in public outside a busy shop, with numerous members of the public present, so we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“We’re also keen to hear from anyone with potential dashcam footage or private CCTV from the Gracemount Drive and Captain’s Drive areas last night, as it could prove vital to our enquiries.”

The suspect was last seen driving away in the same car he entered on Captain’s Drive near the Tesco Express.
