ANCHOR LANE return to DreadnoughtRocks this month with the promise of a few new tracks in the set.

The band are slowly but surely plotting their follow-up to 2020’s debut album Casino, and have been tasting the tracks while out on tour with Wayward Sons in November.

Lawrence O’Brien, the band’s lead guitarist, told The Weekender that they will be progressing the new album in the near future.

He feels they have been developing their sound over the last 18 months or so, with a new dynamic introduced with the recruitment of drummer Graeme Newbury in January 2021.

On Friday, December 17, Anchor Lane headline the Bathgate venue once again – having performed there in February 2020.

O’Brien said: “The Dreadnought is always a good laugh – always a great atmosphere. It’s been a real buzz playing there so far and we’re looking forward to that one.

“It’s a place we love coming back to. Everyone who works there is really nice and everyone who comes to the gigs are there for a good time.

“Even the first time I played there, everyone is just so happy to see you and that’s just so touching. The Dreadnought is a gem, it really is.

“We’ve got some new songs as well to play – obviously, with lockdown we had to do something, so we just got into writing of what will eventually become the follow up to the Casino album, which we released a couple of weeks before our last Dreadnought show.”

On the new material, O’Brien added: “I think there’s been a bit of a development – we’ve been digging into making something new. I don’t feel we are a band that are interested in making the same album twice.

“I’m not sure why bands would do that, to be honest – maybe it’s musical limitation, marketing reasons or just by choice. Regardless, we’re just not one of those bands. We want to make something different every time.

“There’s definitely a lot of fresh ideas and we’re pretty proud of it. That’s why we really want to play these new songs – we’re just proud of them and want people to hear them.”
