IRVINE Meadow captain Charlie McCrorie hoists the 1973 Scottish Junior Cup after three epic matches in the final against Cambuslang Rangers. The first game had ended in a 2-2 draw; the subsequent replay failed to separate the teams, who drew 3-3. The second replay saw Irvine triumph 1-0, thanks to a Hugh O’Brien penalty.

It was the club’s third Scottish Junior Cup, and in winning it they denied Cambuslang a third successive trophy. Before the final, many pundits had backed Cambuslang to win – but Meadow clearly had other ideas.
