A street in Glasgow has been ransformed into downtown Gotham in preparation for the arrival of the next cinematic caped crusader.

Set Dressers have been preparing the area ahead of filming the new Batgirl movie on Parnie Street in Glasgow.

Road closed barriers and traffic cones have been erected on the street and nearby King Street, to the east of the city centre, as preparation work gets underway for filming.

The plot is an origin story for Batgirl, featuring The Penguin as the villain, played by Brendan Fraser.

It has been speculated that actor Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman, decades after he first donned the cowl for director Tim Burton.

Actress Leslie Grace has been picked for the title role, playing Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham police commissioner Jim, who will be played by JK Simmons.

The movie, set to debut on the HBO Max streaming service in 2022, will be directed by Bad Boys For Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Grace is best known for starring in the big screen adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s musical In The Heights.

Glasgow played host to Batman in 2020, when the city was used during filming as the backdrop of the forthcoming eponymous movie starring starring Robert Pattison.

Last year scenes from the upcoming superhero film The Flash, which also features Btman, were filmd around St Vincent Street.

It has been rumoured that The Flash wipes the slate clean for films from the DC stable, clearing the way for Batgirl and Supergirl to take centre stage, with an older Batman taking on the role of a mentor.
