A YOUNG man caught driving on cocaine and carrying a knuckleduster has turned his life around since ending up in front of the law.

Cops pulled over James Wood around 8pm on October 1, 2020, when he was driving along Nitshill Road with two passengers.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how officers went to do a routine document check but could smell a strong fragrance of cannabis coming from the car.

All three occupants were detained and searched and the 22-year-old was found to be in possession of a knuckleduster.

The depute fiscal told the court: "There was nothing else retrieved during the course of the search, however, the officers believed the accused was under the influence of something and were not able to detect a smell of alcohol.

"They carried out a roadside drug swab, which indicated a positive result."

Wood, a stonemason, was taken to Cathcart police station where a doctor attended and a sample of blood was taken.

It was found to contain Benzoylecgonine, a compound of cocaine.

His defence lawyer said: "Mr Wright is deeply ashamed of his behaviour.

"At the time he was associating with people who were a bad influence on him.

"He is now living a much more stable lifestyle."

Sheriff Patricia Pryce said: "You have turned your life around.

"You are at the start of your life and it's up to you whether you want to join the revolving door of this court or make something of your life."

Wood, from Yoker, was fined £630 and disqualified from driving for 16 months.
