A local councillor has provided an update as a busy commuter roundabout remains without street lighting.

The Peel Ports roundabout, en route between West Kilbride and Fairlie, has been left in the dark since last month.

Scottish Conservative councillor for Dalry and West Kilbride Todd Ferguson has been working on the issue since it was raised to him by a constituent in mid-December.

It is not a council road, but he still provided an update after speaking to infrastructure support service provider Amey on the situation at that earlier time.

He said: “I have contacted our electrical team who have informed me that all the upgrades have been completed at this roundabout with the installation of new LED lighting Columns.

“The current issue is we recently had an RTC (road traffic collision) at this location which wiped out one of the columns and the main Scottish Power control box, which has resulted in no lighting at the present time.

“The new lighting column is programmed to be installed on Monday, December 20, 2021, and the electrical Team are liaising with Scottish Power to see if they can attend at the same time.

“Once repairs have been completed the roundabout and approaches will be illuminated once again.”

Since this statement, Cllr Ferguson updated us further saying: “(The) Amey team have done their part and were waiting on Scottish Power to finish the job.

“They chased them again and advised me it would be done soon.”
