SCOTLAND captain Andy Robertson was pleased to finally meet golfer Robert MacIntyre in the United Arab Emirates ahead of the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

The Liverpool defender and the 25-year-old from Oban had exhanged messages via text and over social media but had never met in person.

Robertson wished MacIntyre well for the upcoming tournament and he was put through his paces by the world No.60 as he lent his support to his compatriot.

"Yeah, I loved it," Robertson told the DP World Tour. "It's the first pro-am I've played in so it was an early start.

"I could have played a bit better on certain holes but it's good fun.

"I played with a couple of team-mates as well and we had fun out there.

"We've always spoke quite a lot through Instagram and texting and things like that but to finally meet him was good.

"Obviously, I hope that he can do well this week and this season because the last couple of years he's been excellent and doing Scotland proud.

"We want him to win, especially one of the big ones, and like I said I hope he does well this week."
