A pupil at a school in Edinburgh has died despite emergency efforts to save him.

Paramedics and police were called to Kaimes School in the capital's Liberton area after teachers raised the alarm on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old boy was treated by ambulance crews but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

All students were sent home following the tragedy and the school, which caters for those with complex needs on the autism spectrum, has now closed.

It is not expected to reopen this week.

Police Scotland have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the schoolboy’s death.

A spokesman for the force said: A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.30 am on Tuesday, 25 January, 2022, police responded to a concern for person call at a school on Lasswade Road, Edinburgh.

"Medical assistance was provided by paramedics to a 17-year-old boy, however, he died at the scene.  There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
