A man has died after his lorry veered across a motorway and struck a car coming in the opposite direction.

Police Scotland said that the 32-year-old was driving northbound on the M74 near Glasgow when it crashed through the central reservation and hit a Land Rover in the opposite lane.

The male driver of the black Land Rover Discovery was uninjured, but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s family has been informed.

The crash sparked early morning traffic chaos with both lanes closed.

An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the collision near Junction 10 of the M74 in Lanarkshire.

The road remains closed to allow crash scene investigators to examine the scene and conduct enquiries.

Officers are appealing to any motorists who were on the M74 with any dash cam devices to check their footage. It's possible it may have captured images which could assist officers in their enquiries.
