RANGERS fans have been urged to behave but enjoy themselves ahead of tonight's Europa League Final.

Thousands of supporters are expected to celebrate in George Square if the club are successful against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

The city's top cop, who is responsible for policing Glasgow, asked fans to respect the city.

Glasgow Times:

“A proportionate policing plan will be in place and we will be working with a range of partners, including Rangers Football Club and Glasgow City Council, to ensure we do all we can to maintain public safety and reduce disruption to the wider community.

“From the outset, we hope that fans enjoy their day but ask that they take personal responsibility to behave appropriately and respect Glasgow, its open spaces and its communities.”

Earlier today, we reported that George Square is being prepared for potential celebrations.

Glasgow City Council employees were seen erecting fences around statues and flower beds.

Memorial benches, dedicated to beloved Glaswegians, had already been removed. The council say this has been done following a request from Rangers Football Club.

Large piles of metal fencing were seen on the ground and fences had also been put in place around a grass area.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We have been in regular contact with Rangers in the build-up to this week’s finals.

“Appropriate plans are being put in place to minimise the impact of any gatherings linked to these games.”
