Celtic's upcoming opponents have channelled the legendary Jock Stein ahead of facing the Hoops in the Sydney Super Cup.

Sydney FC lost their derby against Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 on Saturday but the club's official Twitter account posted a message thanking fans for their support during the game.

In doing so they quoted Stein's famous mantra that "football, without the fans, is nothing" and tagged Celtic's own account in the message ahead of the match between the two teams on Thursday.

Celtic, along with English Premier League side Everton, travel Down Under this week to participate in the Sydney Super Cup with the two Sydney sides.

Ange Postecoglou's men play Sydney FC on Thursday November 17  (8.45am GMT) at the Allianz Stadium before facing off against Everton at Accor Stadium on Sunday November 20 (3.45am GMT).

The Toffees also take on Western Sydney Wanderers on November 23 at CommBank Stadium.

Ahead of his homecoming for the friendlies, Postecoglou said: "It's still games we want to do well in but without the pressure of competition. I think it'll do the boys good to get away and have a week or so off to freshen up. It's been an enormous shift from them and credit to them."

Postecoglou has recently been confirmed as a new member of the Football Australia Hall of Fame in recognition of his role in developing and promoting the game down under, as well as his own personal achievements.

"It absolutely is an honour," he said of the announcement. "I think it is a bit premature as I still have things to do, but it is a proud day for not just myself but my parents, wife, family and kids.

"When these things come along, it is great to be acknowledged."
