A BUSY Shawlands road has fully reopened after fire crews spent hours battling a blaze in an old cinema.
As previously reported by the Glasgow Times, around 40 firefighters rushed to the scene on Kilmarnock Road around 7pm on Tuesday.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue crews remained at the, now derelict, White Elephant Cinema until the early hours of the morning working tirelessly to tackle the flames.
Cops quickly locked down the site with the road closed in both directions from closed in both directions between Mount Stuart Street and Walton Street, and drivers diverted away from the area.
However, Glasgow City Council's roads team confirmed the street, which is a main artery through the Southside suburb, fully reopened on Wednesday morning.
There were no reported injuries.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.59pm on Tuesday, July 11, to reports of a fire within a derelict building on Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands.
"Operations Control mobilised a total of nine fire appliances to tackle and contain the fire.
"There were no reported casualties and one appliance remains on scene as of Wednesday, July 12, to reinspect the building for any hotspots."
