POLICING teams have promised to crackdown on under-age drinking hot-spots in Malvern over the summer holidays.

Anti-social behaviour at Rose Bank Gardens, Priory Park and Priory churchyard will be targeted by officers looking to stem the regular tide of complaints from people living nearby.

Local policing officer Claire Baker said: “In the case of the neighbours, they obviously suffer the repercussions of anti-social behaviour.

“Litter is a massive problem with bottles and cans strewn about the greens.”

The police will be confiscating or pouring away any alcohol being consumed by under-age drinkers on these sites as well as working with community partners to deal with underlying causes and identifying those with possible alcohol problems.

Parents have been asked to play their part in the Respect initiative by making sure they know the whereabouts of their children when they go out with friends.

LPO Baker, who will be joined by community support officer Helen Carstairs in the initiative, said: “Parents think their children are going out but not realising the level of alcohol being consumed.

“They are responsible for their children and they need to switch on to where they are going.”

Problems were identified at both Priory Park and the churchyard during April’s Easter holidays.
