A SELF-heating bath, a device that cooks food in the can and a Venetian blind that lights up the room are three entries designed by Brunel University graduates which have been shortlisted for a national competition.

Peter Dangerfield, 24, of Rochdale, Neil Bajaj, 22, of Coulston, Surrey, and Nicola Simpson, 22, of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, were handpicked by talent scouts for the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show.

The trio fought off more than 500 competitors and their inventions will be on view at the Earl's Court show from March 7 to April 1.

The overall winner will receive a £3,000 prize that will help them transform their idea from a concept design to a high street product.

Mr Bajaj, shortlisted for his 'Bath-Butler', said the device automatically tops up a bath with hot water whenever it gets below a certain temperature, thus removing the frustrations of trying to enjoy a long soak.
