NEIGHBOURS have expressed their shock following the discovery of the bodies of an elderly couple in their Malvern home.

Arthur Prior, aged 90, and Mary Prior, 87, from Somers Road, Malvern, were described as “very private people” who had lived at their spacious, detached property for many years.

It is understood Mrs Prior had recently been admitted to a care home, leaving her husband living alone.

They were both found at about 9.30pm on Monday.

Suzie Wolff, who lives opposite the couple, said: “They were very private people. To be honest I hardly ever saw them. I saw the police cars out there and found out from neighbours on the night.

“It’s very sad and very strange as well.”

Other neighbours were still coming to terms with the sudden deaths.

One said: “We’re all very shocked and saddened. I used to see them around and talk to them. They were nice people, very clever.

“They were there when we came here and we have been here 20-years or so.”

Another neighbour in Somers Road said: “She used to come out for a walk but I think she had been poorly, so I had not seen her.

“He was in his 90s but was as bright-as-a-button.”

It is believed Mr and Mrs Prior have two sons in the UK and two daughters who live in Australia.

Inquests were opened and adjourned by the coroner yesterday while further reports were compiled.

Police say the deaths are being treated as unexplained, but are not thought to be suspicious.

The results of post-mortem examinations have yet to be ascertained.
