FORGET the green, green grass of home – a sports-mad 74-year-old has gone red and white for England.
Dick Cooper, of Nursery Road, Malvern, painted his lawn with a St George’s cross to support the England team’s World Cup campaign in South Africa.
Neighbours have been busy having their pictures taken with the 8ft by 6ft painted flag and even Mr Cooper’s 66-year-old wife Jean is happy with it. “ I made her close her eyes before I showed her,” he said. “She loves sports as well.
“I have always been a big sports fan because I ran for England in 1963. I also won the Malvern Beacons race twice and won the Hereford Marathon five times running.”
