A MAN of many talents who played a prominent role in Worcestershire life has died at the age of 74.

Ted Fahey, a former president of Malvern Rotary Club and chairman of Malvern Art Club, passed away on Monday morning after a short illness. His wife of 35 years, Kaye, said the “town will miss him” for his friendliness, wide-range of interests and charitable nature.

Mr Fahey, who attended Hanley Castle Grammar as a boy, was a well known local figure who was keen to indulge his passions for painting, photography and writing.

He had completed his national service in the RAF as a younger man and had also worked as a commercial artist in London as well as serving as a Metropolitan policeman for a time.

He was a former president of the local Rotary club – where he raised £5,000 for his nominated charity of the Acorns Trust – and was also the assistant governor of the district Rotary club.

He was a strong supporter of Malvern’s new community hospital and was involved with raising funds to equip it.

Mrs Fahey said he was characterised by “friendship and giving”.

“Everyone I have phoned has said the town will miss him,” she said.

“He was such a talented man. He used to love having people over to dinner and talking intelligently with people – discussing opera and art.”

Mr Fahey was diagnosed with cancer in April.

His funeral will take place on Thursday at Our Blessed Lady and St Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Blackmore Park, Hanley Swan, starting at 2pm.
