In anticipation of tonight’s return of the Great British Bake Off, Glasgow has been sweetened up with some massive baking decorations across the city centre.
A 78-foot decoration has transformed an argyle street building into a gigantic layer cake and alongside it lies a giant 23-foot fork with a cherry on it, making the city centre a real feast for the eyes.
The sweet looking makeover is part of Channel 4’s nationwide marketing campaign which has turned everyday ordinary scenarios into sumptuous creations to mark the return of the hit series.
Channel 4 marketing director Amber Kirby said: “People love indulging in the Bake-Off escapism every year, it’s just so gloriously fun.
“This campaign imagines how cake can make life just that little bit sweeter; transforming the mundane, the everyday, and the sometimes serious, into something that just makes you smile. Just like the smile you have knowing that Bake Off – Channel 4’s biggest show - is back.”

Last year, the competition seen an impressive 10.6 million viewers tune in to each episode to witness talented individuals put their baking skills to the test. The 11th addition of the series seen young Scot Peter Sawkins scoop the prestigious award.
However, after the cast for this years Bake-Off was announced, it came under some criticism by fans for not including any Scottish, Welsh or Irish contestants, with some even branding it ‘The Great English Bake Off’.
However, despite the all English cast, it doesn’t seem to be effecting the people of Scotland’s excitement for tonight’s first episode and fans have been posting photo’s of the Glasgow decorations on social media.

Last autumn's series had fans rejoicing amid fears it wouldn’t air due to Covid, but with strict measures put in place it was able go ahead.
Lynsey Atkin, executive Creative Director, 4Creative added: “This year rather than escaping our world completely, we wanted to merely improve it after a tough 12 months – with layers of buttercream and a collision of fun elements in typical D-I-Y Bake-Off style.”
This year, much like before, all those involved in the popular Channel 4 show, which sees passionate amateur bakers compete to be crowned the UK’s best, were obliged to test and self-isolate before entering into a Covid-free bubble and begin a six-week stay at the luxurious Down Hall Hotel.
The 12th series of The Great British Bake Off will return tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
