More than 3,600 new Covid infections have been recorded by the Scottish Government in the past 24 hours.

New statistics show that 3,667 fresh cases have been identified, a fall from yesterday's total of 4,024. During that time, 50 deaths have been registered.

This is the highest daily total for seven months and an increase of 13 from yesterday.

The number of people in hopital being treated for the virus in hospital is now 1,011, a slight fall from yesterday's total of 1,057. More than 1,000 people have been treated in hospital since 12 September.

Of those being treated in hospital, 79 are in intensive care, an fall of eight from Thursday. 

The overall death toll from the virus in Scotland is now 8,514 by the Scottish Government's measure, which counts those who registered a positive test in the past 28 days.

Separate figures produced by National Records of Scotland, which report deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, put the number at 10,826 as of 19 September.

Of the 46,217 new tests for Covid-19 which reported results yesterday, 8.5 per cent were positive. 

The vaccination scheme continues to roll out, with 4,168,278 people having received the first dose of a vaccine, while 3,820,182 have received their second dose.
