More than 2,400 new Covid infections have been recorded by the Scottish Government in the past 24 hours.

A total of 2,417 fresh cases have been identified, a fall from yesterday's total of 2,627.

There have been a further 18 new reported deaths, two more than yesterday's figure of 16. 

The number of people in hospital being treated for the virus in hospital is now 943, a fall from yesterday's total of 957.

Of those being treated in hospital, 61 are in intensive care, three fewer than the day before.

The overall death toll from the virus in Scotland is now 8,773 by the Scottish Government's measure, which counts those who registered a positive test in the past 28 days.

Separate figures produced by National Records of Scotland, which report deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, put the number at 11,134 as of 3 October. 

Of the 31,935 new tests for Covid-19 which reported results yesterday, 8.1 per cent were positive.

The vaccination scheme continues to roll out, with 4,246,101 people having received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,859,839 their second dose.
