Beloved Scottish singer-songwriter, Lewis Capaldi’s new hit single reaches number one in the UK trending charts, days after its release.

The Glasgow-born singer, who recently played at Trnsmt and London’s O2 Arena, released the comeback anthem after a three-year hiatus from producing music

The song ‘Forget me,’ raised eyebrows when Capaldi used the opportunity to recreate the music video to Wham’s 1983 hit, ‘Club Tropicana’.

Lewis Capaldi plays George Michael in new video

The video sees speedo-wearing Lewis Capaldi play the role of George Michael and unashamedly show himself off for the camera.

Many on Twitter and YouTube praised the video, with some commentators calling it “brave” and praising the appearance of other body types not normally shown in the media.

‘Forget me’ reached two million listens less than a day after its release, according to the artist.

Lewis Capaldi expressed his thanks to fans in a Twitter post, saying: “these past few years away writing new music have been the most nerve-racking of my entire life. to wake up today and see so so many of you playing FORGET ME honestly means the world.”

In a statement, Louis Bhose, who directed the video, explained: “You hear a sad song, and you expect a sad video. There’s catharsis in that. But to go in the other direction completely felt more in line with the Lewis that walked onstage at Glastonbury in full Noel Gallagher getup.

"The performance is classic Capaldi: ‘Yeah, no bother, just singing this song with a cocktail in my hand. I’m fine, not thinking about my ex, here at Club Tropicana.’”

Previously, his songs: ‘Somebody you loved’ and ‘before you go’ topped the U.K charts in 2019, with ‘somebody you loved’ remaining in the top spot for seven consecutive weeks.
