A number of major high street brands are set to close stores across the UK in June. 

Barclays Bank, Argos and Lloyds Pharmacy are among the major high street names to be closing branches in the UK next month.

Here is a list of all the closures taking place in June 2023:

Barclays Bank

Barclays announced recently it would be shutting a further 15 stores in 2023, taking its total number of closures for the year to 110.

According to consumer group Which?, as it stands by the end of 2023, Barclays will have closed 1,070 bank branches since 2015.

Last year, Barclays closed 184 branches – the second highest of all the major banks, behind only Lloyds Banking Group (which includes Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Lloyds Bank) which shut 186 sites. 

Barclays said the decision to close more stores was due to a significant change in customer behaviour, with more people choosing to bank online. 

The bank has already closed 41 stores so far in 2023 and plans to shut a further 27 next month alone.

The Barclays branches closing in June are:

  • 1 Station Road, Knowle – June 16
  • 1 Tudor Square, West Bridgford – June 15
  • 29 High Street, Mildenhall – June 14
  • 58 High Street, Newmarket - June 9
  • 46 Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo – June 23

Halifax

Halifax revealed earlier this year that it would be closing 20 stores across the UK in 2023.

It has already shut 15 stores with the rest to close in June. 

The Halifax branches closing next month are:

  • Maldon - June 5
  • St Neots - June 6
  • Whitley Bay - June 21
  • Grays - June 22
  • Purley - June 22

Iceland

There have been 11 Iceland store closures announced so far for 2023.

It has already closed nine of those stores with its store on Church Street, Flint in North Wales closing today (May 27).

This will leave just one store closure left to take place in June. 

The Iceland store in Beccles, Suffolk will shut for the final time on June 17.

Lloyds Pharmacy

According to The Sun, there are three Lloyds Pharmacy closures taking place in June. 

These closures are:

  • Sainsbury's Peak Drive, Allenton, Derby - TBC (early June)
  • Sainsbury's Rother Way, Chesterfield - June 13
  • Sainsbury's Newport - June 13

HSBC

HSBC is set to close 114 branches in 2023.

The major high street bank has already closed 31 branches this year and there are a further six stores shutting their doors on May 30. 

These branches include:

  • Dundee
  • Filton
  • Leicester
  • Market Harborough
  • Stourport-On-Severn
  • Waltham Cross

Then in June, HSBC is set to close 24 branches across the UK:

  • Beccles - June 27
  • Bicester - June 20
  • Chepstow - June 6
  • Frome - June 6
  • Hertford - June 20
  • Honiton - June 13
  • Ilkley - June 13
  • Knutsford - June 6
  • Lewes - June 27
  • New Milton - June 27
  • Oakham - June 20
  • Penarth - June 13
  • Pocklington - June 6
  • Pontypool - June 27
  • Portadown - June 6
  • Ross-On-Wye - June 20
  • Skipton - June 13
  • Sleaford - June 13
  • South Shields - June 13
  • St Neots - June 27
  • Stirling - June 6
  • Twickenham - June 20
  • Wadebridge - June 27
  • Wells - June 20

Lloyds Bank

Lloyds has revealed it will shut 23 sites this year. 

In June, there will be six closures with the other 17 having already taken place earlier in 2023. 

The Lloyds Bank branches closing in June are:

  • Aintree - June 6
  • Harrow - June 29
  • Hyde - June 21
  • Newport - June 13
  • Ripley - June 14
  • Rustington - June 5
  • Shaftesbury - June 13

NatWest

NatWest, like a number of other major banks is set to close a significant amount of stores in 2023.

They announced they would be closing 52 stores across the UK this year. 

One Natwest branch will be closing in June and this is the one in Birstall which will shut on June 1.

Santander

Santander has already closed three stores across the UK this year in Dartford, Derby and Sheffield. 

They will close a further two branches next month (June), both in Milton Keynes.

Poundland

Poundland is closing one store in Broad Street, Lynn within the Vancouver Quarter on June 2.

The store is closing after the landlords asked them to vacate the site.

But the good news is the discount store plans on opening 50 new stores across the country by September 2023. 

Poundstretcher

Poundstretcher will be closing its Leyland store on Churchill Way Retail Park on June 23.

But like Poundland is planning to open 50 new stores in 2023.

Other high street brands

Last month B&M closed three stores in the UK while opening five.

Major high-street supermarkets Aldi and Lidl have also revealed locations where they would like to build new stores across the UK.

While there are no store closures in June for Marks and Spencer, there is the potential for new stores to open in the UK. 

There is a range of new store locations that were revealed earlier this year and labelled with opening dates of summer 2023. 

These sites include Purley Way, Leeds White Rose (relocation), Liverpool (relocation) and Stockport (food hall).
