JAMIE POLLOCK is a well-known name around the country and his next show - whenever that be - is not to be missed.

He is making his way through These Times of being a solo artist, following the break up of Vida back in October last year.

He had been expected to headline King Tut's in March, with other shows around the country, but the tour was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Clacks man has released two singles so far, with a third on the way later this month.

Here, he looks back on his musical journey and gives The Weekender an insight into his First Gig, Last Gig and Best Gig.

The first gig I ever went to was…

At the SECC, in Glasgow, taking in the madness that is The Prodigy - all when I was about fifteen years old. I had a yellow and white Fred Perry polo on, with the collar up and a Mackenzie jacket tied around the waist of my G-Star jeans. Probably had K-Swiss trainers on as well. The glory days, some might say.

The first gig I ever played was…

Vida’s first gig at the epicentre of all things ‘new music’ in the Wee County: The Oakwood Lounge in early 2013. Think the crowd consisted of the full band’s mums, dads and aunties, with the addition of a few mates from work. Who would’ve known what was ahead of us, eh? Great memories.

The last gig I was at was…

Liam Gallagher in Vienna with my fiancée, in February. Safe to say the guy’s definitely still got it. Not a bad gig to experience before the lows of this lockdown, I suppose…

The last gig I played was…

Supposed to be a headliner at King Tut’s at the end of March, but the lockdown was put in place literally days before it, so it had to be cancelled until further notice. Which means the last gig I played was in Manchester on March 7 at YES Pink Room. Unreal turn out and the crowd were right up for it.

The best gig I have ever been to was…

Has to be a toss-up between The Stone Roses at the Etihad in 2016, or seeing The Rolling Stones in Paris in 2017, again with the fiancée. Watching The Rolling Stones play live in a city like Paris is probably the winner though, as that was a pure bucket list moment.

The best gig I have played was…

Vida’s sold-out show at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh, in February of 2019. Felt like a total culmination of all the hard graft we’d put in over the years. An 850 capacity venue packed to the rafters, bouncing. I’m sure there was actually a health and safety warning because the place was over-capacity. Scenes. That night will stay with me forever.

  • Pollock's next single Won’t Slow Me Down will be released on July 31.
