THE first glimpse of the new V&A museum in Dundee (“City gets first sight of new V&A Museum on banks of Tay”, The Herald, October 19)The Herald, 19 October) reveals the brutalistic architecture that is now the norm and any "beauty" it and others have is in the eyes of its creator and not, by and large, beholders. Having witnessed it during construction on visits to Dundee my fears are now realised in that it overwhelms and dwarfs the splendidly restored ship Discovery.

The architect, Mr Kuma, states he was inspired by Scotland's cliffs. Perhaps this will become further in reality as it looks an ideal nesting site for seabirds.
