I NOTE with interest your front-page article (“£500m a year fails to get more Scots off the couch”, The Herald, November 27). As a dress size 16, I am described by the fashion trade as a "plus size". Can I put forward a very simple idea to encourage people like me to take up gym membership?

Get rid of the mirrors lining the walls. This is the reason that I and probably many others do not use gyms and leisure centres. Who wants to be depressed by looking at one's less than perfect appearance? A separate exercise room with no mirrors would encourage me to lose weight.
