SO Ross McEwan believes it will take 5-10 years before RBS can recover from its role in the string of scandals it was involved in during the financial crisis ("RBS chief: It could take 10 years to recover reputation", The Herald, October 8). Really? He ought to think that through, as the customers who were robbed of savings, businesses, livelihoods and their trust in what was a rock-solid institution, these customers will not, I fancy, forgive and forget as easily as Mr McEwan thinks.

If, however, the perpetrators of the well-documented malpractices that RBS staff inflicted on their trusting customers were brought to book from within the organisation, then and only then might we begin to dare to trust RBS again with our hard-earned cash.
