THE news that the Clydesdale Bank has completed its takeover of Virgin Money ("Clydesdale Bank owners complete £1.7bn Virgin deal", The Herald, October 16) and that the latter name will replace that of the former raises interesting questions about the future design of banknotes produced by the renamed institution.

At the moment, Clydesdale notes feature such iconic Scottish images as Burns and the Forth Bridge. Are we to assume these will be replaced by the face of Sir Richard Branson?

Or perhaps those of some of his recording artistes such as Mike Oldfield or the Sex Pistols? Simple Minds would be ideal, as they would at least maintain the Scottish connection.
