YET, sometimes nostalgia is exactly what it used to be.

Isn’t it great to see Piers Morgan keeping alive the spirit of Reg Varney’s On The Buses sitcom character alive, and indeed the creatures Sid James reproduced continually in the Carry Ons?

Each day in Good Morning Britain he clearly takes great delight in treating his co-star Susanna Reid as a supporting female character to be gently mocked.

Morgan interrupts her, chides, her, tells her she is wrong.

But of course Reid is more than capable of coping with the throwback that his Morgan. She knows how to treat her co-star with exactly the right amount of disdain.

Just as did Molly Sugden’s character in Are You Being Served? When the patriarchal captain Peacock once beckoned over the lilac-haired, sassy Mrs Slocombe, she replied “I do not respond to a man’s finger.”

Morgan and Reid make great television. Viewer’s love the spats. But more importantly, it’s a chance to see an outdated oaf put down.
