IS it just me or are many people puzzled by the Black Friday phenomenon here in the UK?

As I understand it this is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States when everyone is tired and skint after the celebrations. Thus the shops need to find some clever way to part the punters from their leftover cash.

So far so understandable. How on earth did it come here though? It's bad enough having Hallowe’en hijacked by pumpkins and the appalling “trick or treat” but in case no one has noticed we do not have Thanksgiving – maybe that's next. We can give thanks for our wonderful Westminster nitwits dropping us right in the Brexit!
