RUSSELL Smith's "Wee Cock Sparra" letter (November 17) reminds us of Duncan Macrae's masterly performance of the poem, which I believe was written by a Scottish doctor and donated or sold to Macrae. Items attributed to Harry Lauder were acquired in the same manner.

My own venture into nature poems can be represented by the following:

I am a humble speugie, on the windae sill I sit.

When people ask me for a song, I just go "Chirp". That's it.

And that's one of the better ones.
