MAY I add an important item to being a truly posh (TP) person ("How to be a prince among men: first, welcome squirrels into your home", The Herald, November 17)? If you are in the desert with a mixed group of people you will be able to seek out your own kind by listening to conversations. Those who say "oaf " are your fellow travellers. Those who say "off" are not at all posh. This was explained to viewers some time ago by an elderly TP lady who had obviously fallen on hard times. She was living in a very small flat surrounded by photographs of paintings which the family had owned but had to sell.

I was told by someone who was at university with Michael Forsyth that he entered St Andrew's saying "off" and left saying "oaf".
