FOLLOWING the sad news of Dean Ford’s death I can vaguely recall that the half-time entertainment at the Scotland versus England football international at Hampden in April 1964 was none other than Dean Ford and the Gaylords, later to become The Marmalade.

They played their hit single of the day – 20 Miles. Having checked the football records that state that the attendance was 133,245 I am wondering if any other pop or rock act has played to a bigger audience in Scotland.

I am assuming that a pipe band played at Hampden’s record attendance of 149,415 in 1937. Can any reader confirm that the Gaylords did indeed play as the half-time entertainment that day and if any other pop or rock act has played to a bigger audience?

PS: Scotland won 1-0 with a goal from Alan Gilzean.
