WE learn that the Duke of Edinburgh is not be prosecuted in relation to the serious road accident in Norfolk on January 17 ("Prince's crash: No charges", The Herald, February 15). It is "not in the public interest", we are told. One wonders why that should be.

Is it because he is a nonagenarian? Is it because fortunately no one was was killed or seriously injured? Is it because the sun was in his eyes? Is it because he has surrendered his licence? Is it because he eventually apologised to the occupants of the other car involved? Or is it just because he married well?

Ian W Thomson,
